DESCRITPION:
Extremely rare vintage Nivada Grenchen in stainless steel with, bi-directional 60min bezel and excellent condition Valjoux 23 movement.
MOVEMENT:
Valjoux 23, hand-wound mechanical column-wheel chronograph movement, 17 jewels
DIAL:
Original black dial with luminous hour markers and tachymeter on the periphery. Two grey subdials, subsidiary seconds at 9 o’clock and chronograph 30-min counter at 3 o’clock with red 5-minute countdown sector. Red ‘lollipop’ chronograph central sweep seconds hand and white baton hour/minutes hands.
CASE:
38mm, Mint condition thick stainless steel case, black bi-directional 60-minute bezel. Screw-down case back

NOTES:
Nivada Grenchen is a Swiss watch company founded in 1879 in the town of Grenchen, Switzerland. Grenchen is the same town where several watch manufacturers were also established, including Breitling SA, ETA SA, Fortis, Eterna SA and Titoni Ltd. Very little information is available on these ultra-rare timepieces, which also makes them highly collectible.
One can also find in this earlier Chronomaster the prestigious movement: the Valjoux 23, an icon in the history of the Swiss column-wheel chronograph movements from the mid twentieth century that was used by brands like Jaeger and Rolex for its robustness. Also, an interesting story is Longines, already being one of the best manufacturers of pocket chronographs, had no difficulty to develop its own wristwatch movements. In the opinion of many collectors, 13 ZN and the subsequent 30 CH (produced since 1948), are the best in terms of technology and quality. However, since the late ’60s, Longines ceased to mount its ebauches and started to use Valjoux 23 (in the chronograph for the Munich Olympic games) as it was the best replacement possible.
