NOTES: In 1985, Peter Baumberger acquired the Urban Jurgensen brand and, with master horologist Derek Pratt, continued its tradition of creating elegant, intricately made watches while innovating with the frame of keeping with tradition. Kari Voutilanen already was involved in part of the technical supervision back then and has recently acquired the brand himself. The Reference 8 from the 1990's exemplifies it era with its 37 mm platinum case, distinctive teardrop lugs, and step bezel. The lugs are separately forged, heat-treated, hand-polished, and soldered using mid-century techniques. The hand-finished dial features blue minute markers, blue Roman numerals, and a hand guilloché pattern, with hand-crafted gold and blue 'observatoire' hands. The dial's subsidiary seconds display at six o'clock adds depth, decorated with a cross hatch pattern and a slim blue seconds hand. The watch is powered by a meticulously finished Frédéric Piguet calibre with a 21k gold guilloche rotor and 31 jewels, adjusted for heat, cold, isochronism, and five positions. |
