Mexicana de Aviación, founded in 1921, holds the distinction of being one of the oldest airlines in the world and the first airline established in Mexico. Initially created as Compañía Mexicana de Aviación, the airline began by offering mail and cargo services before expanding into passenger flights across Mexico and eventually to the United States and Central America. Over the decades, Mexicana grew into a symbol of national pride, known for its elegant service and international reach, particularly during the golden era of aviation in the mid-20th century. Despite its success, financial struggles and management challenges led to its shutdown in 2010, marking a major chapter in Latin American aviation history. In recent years, efforts have been made to revive the Mexicana name, reflecting its lasting legacy and emotional resonance within Mexico’s aviation and cultural identity. |
