NOTES: Following thorough research by the collector community, most notably Paul Russel and Ross Povey, these so-called 'Hybrid' configuration Tudor MilSubs have been predominantly attributed as Royal Canadian Navy issued watches. These 94010 Tudor Submariners are within a known serial batch (88xxxx-89xxxxx), have snowflake hands, but with the particularity of the round index shield dial instead of the square index dials usually found with snowflake hands. Until recently, all of these were thought to have been issued to the RCN. However, two watches surfaced with peculiar and roughly applied CEL xxxx engravings. One with a single engraving CEL 2181 and the other (this example) with CEL 2188 CEL 2184. This particular example is discussed at great length by Ross Povey in his article Thrill of The Chase: A US Navy Issued Tudor Submariner 9401 with Paul Russell. It previously belonged to the prolific collector Paul Russel. It is revealed that the CEL engraving stands for Naval Civil Engineering Laboratory in Port Hueneme, California. This is also the base where the famous Seabees were stationed. These are the United States Naval Construction Battalions, better known as the Navy Seabees to form the U.S. Naval Construction Force (NCF). The Seabee nickname based on the initial letters C B from the words Construction Battalion.
The watch is accompanied by some goodies from the US Navy base NCEL in Port Hueneme, California as well as the Seabees.
