NOTES: The longest produced, and likely the most varied, reference from Rolex, the Submariner 5513 was launched in 1962 and discontinued in 1989. The first dials were gilt, then came the meters first matte dials in 1968, followed by a change to feet first 'non serif' in late 1969 (2 million serial) and by the end of 1972 (3 million serial) we saw the first serif dials.

Cases with serial numbers in the late 3.0 million range mark the beginning of a transition between Serif Dials and Non Serif Dials in about 1974/1975. This evolution reflects Rolex's meticulous attention to detail and its response to changing design preferences. The Non Serif Dial design continued to be produced until the era of the Pre Comex Dial, a distinct variation often found in cases stamped with serial numbers in the early to mid 5.0 million range.
