DIAL: Black glossy dial with beveled date aperture at 3 o’clock, white gold surround applied tritium hour markers.
CASE: 40mm, stainless steel with black 60 min rotating bezel and sapphire crystal.
MOVEMENT: Caliber 3035, Self-winding mechanical movement with 27 jewels
BRACELET: Rolex stainless steel Oyster fliplock 93160/592, Clasp Code J2 (Feb 1985)
CONDITION REPORT: The dial and hands are mint and tritium has aged to a nice even cream color. The hands are very slightly lighter in color, but original. The case appears to be unpolished, pinholes are still crisp and overall a strong and thick case. The bezel has a few light marks and the pearl has aged to rich amber color.
NOTES: This watch comes complete with its box, punched papers, calendar, diving card, diver extension, tool, booklet, hangtags and anchor. It was sold at Bucherer in Zurich in 1985.
The Sea-Dweller reference 16660 is the successor of the original 1665. It was produced from 1978 to about 1988 and had a few technological upgrades including a bigger helium release valve, sapphire crystal and the 3035 caliber. This new caliber featured a higher frequency of 28,800, improved shock resistance and a quickset date.
In the early years of production, the 16660 was made alongside the 1665 and had a matte dial as well. The subsequent 16660 were fitted with glossy dials that had white gold surround applied tritium hour markers.
The depth rating on the watch improved with sapphire crystal and case redesign from 610m up to 1220m, as reflected on the dial.
