CONDITION REPORT: The watch is in stunning overall original condition. The case is quiet worn, but we believe it to be unpolished with original bevels and finishing still clearly visible. The dial and hands are original and in excellent shape with a flawless dial and even cream patina on all the tritium. The insert has faded to a beautiful charcoal burgundy color depending on the light and appears flawless with pearl intact. The original domed crystal is in excellent shape as well. The bracelet is worn, but shows little stretch and long as well as having the matching date code for the year of the watch (1976 bracelet and 1977 serial range). The inner caseback has the full serial number inscribed and matching.

NOTES: The Rolex Sea Dweller 1665 "Double Red" holds a significant place in the history of diving watches. Introduced in 1967, it was specifically designed to meet the demands of professional divers and has since become an iconic watch within the Rolex lineup. The "Double Red" nickname stems from the two lines of red text on the dial, which read "Sea-Dweller" and "Submariner 2000." These watches were initially produced for a short period between 1967 and 1977 and featured a depth rating of 2,000 feet or 610 meters. The introduction of the Sea Dweller 1665 marked a significant milestone in Rolex's dive watch technology, as it was the first model to incorporate a helium escape valve, allowing professional divers to safely decompress during saturation diving missions.
This particular example is a Mark 4, the last iteration of the double Red Sea dweller before changing to a full white text the same year.
