NOTES: The model GMT Master II first appeared in 1984 with the reference 16760 and was the first GMT to be fitted with a sapphire crystal. This new model bore the Caliber 3085, which allowed the user to set the hour hand independently and is today the standard configuration as the GMT Master has been discontinued. The new caliber called for a thicker case and this earned the 16760 reference the nickname Fat Lady or Sophia Loren.
The first execution of this reference featured the words Oyster Perpetual on the dial without the word Date, which would come on following executions. This was the standard layout for the GMT Master at that time as well. This first series is especially difficult to find, especially in this stunning condition.
