DIAL: Black ‘Explorer’ dial with Triange 12, Numeral 3-6-9 and baton tritium luminous hour markers. The numerals on this dial are filled in black. Printing in silver gilt.
MOVEMENT: Caliber 3000, Automatic, 27 jewels
CASE: 36mm, stainless steel with smooth bezel, sapphire crystal
BRACLET: Stainless steel Rolex Oyster 78360/558B, date code P6
CONDITION REPORT: Excellent condition. Dial and hands are flawless and original. Case is crisp and retains its original caseback reference sticker. Bracelet is also in excellent condition.
NOTES: This watch comes complete with its original box & papers and was sold in 1991 in Hong Kong.
The Explorer 14270 was the successor to the 1016 with the introduction of the sapphire crystal, Caliber 3000 and the applied hour markers on the glossy black dial instead of the printed markers on a matte dial.
The first series of these 14270 had silver gilt printing and the numerals 3-6-9 were filled in black, hence the nickname 'blackout'. In the following series and since these numerals are filled in white and the printing on the dial is white.
