DIAL: Baby blue lacquered dial with diamond applied hour markers and gold hands. Date aperture at 3 o’clock and Day aperture at 12 o’clock.
CASE: 36mm, yellow gold with ‘fluted’ bezel and acrylic glass with loupe for date at 3 o’clock.
MOVEMENT: Caliber 3055, Single Quick, Self-winding chronometer movement, 27 jewels
BRACELET: 18K Yellow gold Rolex ‘President’ bracelet
CONDITION REPORT: Excellent condition and 100% original including the dial and hands. The dial has no cracks and the tritium plots are perfectly intact with a nice creamy patina.

The Day Date ‘President’ is one of the most iconic Rolexes and has a truly rich history. Introduced in the mid 1950’s, the Day Date quickly became popular and a symbol of success. It become even more famous in the 1960’s and known as the ‘President’s wristwatch’ following an ad campaign in the United States by Rolex as well as rumors that this was the wristwatch of choice for American presidents such as Roosevelt. We have seen that it was the choice of gift from Marilyn to Kennedy, with an inscription on the case back and we have often seen it in photos of Lyndon Johnson. The size of 36mm in diameter, the shape of the Oyster case and the cyclops that magnifies the date window by 2.5 times are the hallmarks of Rolex models. The Day Date is still the king of vintage watches as it offers a story, a reliable automatic movement and both the day and date.
The word ‘Stella’ comes from Latin for star. The shiny and colorful lacquer dials were nicknamed Stella dials. Due to their lack of success, very few were produced and the production run was quiet limited for each color.
