IWC*** Mark IX Pilot Watch 436*** 1936
International Watch Co., Mark IX Pilot Watch Ref. 436, 38mm Stainless Steel, Black Glossy Dial with Radium Numerals, circa 1936
Serial: 974859 / Mvt 941505
Circa: 1930's
Reference No.: 436

CASE: 38mm, stainless steel, rotating bezel with radium triangle, snap back (with second snap inner back) and acrylic crystal. Fixed bars.

DIAL: Black glossy dial with radium hour markers.

MOVEMENT: Calibre 83, hand-wound mechanical movement, 15 jewels

BRACELET: Leather strap (sewn on for fixed bars)

CONDITION REPORT: Excellent and original condition. The dial radium has darkened over time and still reacts on the Geiger counter. UV turns off right away. The hands appear to have been re-filled at some point as they glow a tiny bit after UV. The case is in great condition and bezel rotates properly and is still tight.

NOTES: The watch comes a Certificate of Authenticity from IWC (2017) confirming delivery August 27, 1936 and this watch is a 'special watch for pilots'.
This extremely rare pilot watch is rarely seen and especially in original condition such as this one. The Mark IX is a nickname versus actual military order and the subject of debate because there is no proof of it being a military issue watch. It is rather considered a special civilian pilot watch as per confirmation by the IWC Museum.
