Caliber Valjoux 72, Manual-wound column wheel chronograph movement, 17 jewels. Signed Gallet & Co
DIAL:
Black dial with three subcounters in silver color. Outer dial with tachymeter & telemeter indication for chronograph. Triangle hour markers with luminous dots.
Silver central chronograph seconds hand, baton style hours/minutes hands.
CASE:
38mm, Stainless Steel with black bi-directional rotating 12-hour ‘time zone’ bezel and straight lugs, pump pusher, screw-down case-back, plastic crystal.
Inner case back signed.

NOTES:
Gallet apparently traces back its history in watchmaking back to 1466 when Humbertus Gallet became a citizen of Geneva as a watchmaker of trade. Gallet was primarily known for its chronographs and developments in the mass markets of this mechanism. It was also known for its collaborative efforts with Excelsior Park.
Introduced in 1941, the Multichron Pilot quickly became Gallet‘s most popular chronograph. With its telemeter and tachymeter indications and a rotating 12-hour ‘time zone’ bezel, it became the ideal watch for traveling or racing. These chronographs were mainly fitted with the Excelsior Park movements and when out of supply the Valjoux 72 movement was the ideal replacement.
VALJOUX was a Swiss manufacturer of mechanical watch movements. It’s known primarily for the chronograph movements that have been used in mid to high range mechanical watches in the 60’s and 70’s. Valjoux stands for Vallé de Joux, the watchmaking region that gave birth to brands like Jaeger LeCoultre and Audemars Piguet. Valjoux made many historic calibers that still are the base of many of the most reliable movements today. It was absorbed into ETA which became part of Swatch group.
The Valjoux 72 is probably the most collectible caliber among these chronographs. This was witnessed when the most valuable Rolex Oyster Chronograph in history with a Valjoux 72 sold for a million Swiss francs at auction in Geneva.
