Cartier*** Tank Basculante 18K*** 1991
Cartier Tank Basculante, 18K Yellow Gold
Serial: A106944
Circa: 1991
Reference No.: N/A

CASE: 38 mm length x 26 mm width, 18K yellow gold, basculante

DIAL: Silver guilloché dial with Roman numerals, blued steel hands, signed Cartier Paris.

MOVEMENT: Caliber 060MC, mechanical, 21 jewels

BRACELET: Cartier alligator strap with Cartier 18K gold buckle

CONDITION REPORT: Excellent overall condition with light signs of wear. The patina on the gold attests to the lack of use over the past years.

NOTES: The Tank Basculante was released by Cartier in 1933, a year after Jaeger LeCoultre released the iconic Reverso, in order to accommodate wearers that would be prone to shocks to the front of the watch like polo players. Unlike the Reverso that slides on a horizontal axis to flip over, the Tank Basculante case side liftes to allow it to rotate vertically without sliding to flip over.
Although this example looks similar to the 150th anniversary model (1997) with red ruby stone at 6 o'clock and Cartier Paris in the center of the dial, it pre-dates it by serial range, has the sapphire stone at the bottom and the dial guilloché pattern is different. Although the positioning of the sapphire is a subtle difference, this early 1990's version is very hard to come by.
