NOTES: In 1960, Rolex released the Cosmograph watch to measure and record elapsed time beginning with the reference 6239. This reference did not yet carry the name Daytona. It was powered by a Valjoux 72B manual wind column wheel chronograph movement, which Rolex reworked and improved internally. The watch had a tachymeter bezel and was fitted with pump pushers. Soon after, the introduction of the name Daytona was often seen on Rolex chronographs. This name came from the beach town in Florida, USA, where the famous Daytona race took place every year.
References 6262 and 6264 adopted push-down buttons with metal bezel (ref. 6262) or black plastic bezel (ref. 6264). These references were manufactured from late 1969 to 1972. They are part of the few references for wich exotic dials were offered as an option by Rolex as a Paul Newman dial must be in a reference 6239, 6241, 6262, 6263, 6264 or 6265 watch, installed by Rolex as original.
